Hanging instructions
Svealin is made from linen – a natural material. The appearance of the fibres varies from harvest to harvest, which means that the fabric may contain some impurities such as occasional black or grey fibres, as well as slightly courser fibres.
Substrate: When hanging light-coloured wallpaper, the substrate should be light and uniform, as well as even, dry, and saturated. It may be a good idea to paint the wall in a colour that corresponds to the wallpaper. Make sure that any previous layers of wallpaper are firmly fixed to the substrate.
Inspection: Don’t forget to inspect each length before hanging. If you spot any defects, stop working immediately and contact the retailer. If you do not stop working, no claims in respect of defects will be accepted.
Cutting: The durability of linen requires a very sharp wallpaper cutter. Replace the blade frequently.
Adhesive and application: Use ready-mixed adhesive that is specifically for textile wallpaper with a dry-matter content of at least 20%. Apply the adhesive to the back of the wallpaper and allow to soak for three to four minutes. Don’t forget that while wallpapering, the wallpaper should be cleaned of any adhesive residues while still wet. See the section on cleaning below.
Hanging: Every length from the roll must be hung in the same direction. Paper the wall from edge to edge. It’s important never to force the wallpaper together edge to edge. The material will want to return to its original shape and so can easily slide apart during the drying process. Where it may be difficult to achieve a nice joint, it is recommended to tear the edges before hanging. This is best done in the case of dark wallpaper. Place the wallpaper front side down and tear a one-centimetre strip upwards and 90 degrees outwards along the entire edge of the length. The tear will follow the threads and be straight. Since there is now no sharp edge to the paper, the threads will flow together with the adjacent length to give you an almost invisible joint. However, be careful not to tear off too much of the backing paper. It is easier to spot any differences in levels in a long wall that gets a lot of light. Be careful not to tear off too little of the paper, as then it may be difficult to get the edges to join up. You can tear the edges before or after applying the adhesive. An advantage of doing this after applying the adhesive is that you can easily pull down the wet edge with the palm of your hand and smooth out any irregularities.
Cleaning: The wallpaper is wipeable. Remove stains as quickly as possible using a cloth or sponge dampened with lukewarm water. For tougher stains, a weak solution of washing-up liquid may be required. Wipe in the direction of the thread and avoid rubbing too hard. To remove any adhesive residues you can use a clean wallpaper brush using its top edge to brush the wallpaper in the direction of the threads.
